Udaipur: The City of Lakes

The City of Lakes. That name alone is enough to grab the attention of most travellers. And Udaipur is a city that certainly deserves the attention. Centred around Pichola Lake, this city has thrived for well over four hundred years now – having been the capital of the Mewar kingdom at its peak. Palaces from the great Rajput era abound, and while their history is a long and interesting one, it is an era which only began to end when India was granted independence.

Udaipur, also known as the Venice of the East, has not one but five major lakes within the city boundaries. Aside from Pichola Lake there is Fateh Sagar, Swaroop Sagar and Udai Sagar. Each of them has their own charm, and can be explored at leisure.

To visit such a historically important and beguiling city, it’s important to choose your accommodation carefully. Picking the right hotel for your holiday can enhance your experience greatly, giving you a place to relax and enjoy the true feel of Rajasthan.

One such hotel, situated on the banks of Pichola Lake, is the Trident. Centrally located, but a haven from the outside world, we highly recommend Trident Udaipur packages. With over 130 rooms and suites to choose from, and more than 40 acres of land to explore, there is something for everyone here. When deciding which room to take, it’s a difficult choice, as you can either have a view of the garden or the pool. Three unique and distinctive restaurants make dining at the Trident something special. Our personal favourite is The Terrace, which offers views of Pichola Lake and the Aravalli mountains.

When considering what activities to include in your Trident Udaipur package, the hotel has a great deal to offer. The swimming pool and fitness centre offer exertion and relaxation in equal measure, and the kids’ club ensures every member of the family is catered for. The hotel can also arrange activities around Udaipur as part of the package. Boat cruises (including dinner), wildlife walks, a trip to Bada Mahal and visits to other beautiful palaces and temples can all be taken care of by the Trident.

The best time to visit Udaipur is between October and March, when the weather is dry and the temperature ranges between warm and cool. This allows you to avoid the intense heat that can be present during the summer months, as well as the monsoon rains which can catch you anywhere between June and September.
